Briggs Rauscher Oscillating Reaction

Solutions

  1. 0.14M KIO3
    (29.96gm/liter)
  2. 3.2M H2O2
    0.17M HClO4
    (364ml peroxide, 14.6ml perchloric per liter)
  3. 0.15M malonic acid
    0.024M MnSO4
    10g/liter soluble starch
    (15.7gm malonic, 4.06gm MnSO4, 10gm/liter starch)

Procedure

Mix equal amounts of solutions A, B, and C in that order with stirring. Solution will oscillate from clear(yellow) to blue. Reaction lasts about 20 minutes. Minimum recommended amounts is 250ml per each solution.


Waste disposal: Combine wastes and neutralize carefully.
